The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect after an incident that left one person with moderate injuries after being stabbed.

On Monday August 26th, about 11:00 PM, Deputies responded to an apartment complex in the 21200 block of Ord Avenue in the East Garrison area after receiving multiple reports of a male subject who was carrying a knife and causing a disturbance by threatening to harm people. The suspect was reported to be running through the complex and at one point had attempted to gain entry into one of the apartment units.

Deputies arrived on scene and received multiple firsthand reports of a suspect who was described to be a Hispanic male, 20 to 25 years of age, about 5-08 with long hair in a ponytail. He was seen wearing a yellow sweatshirt with “Polo” across the front, black pants, and a ski mask. The male was last seen running through the apartment complex and it was unknown if he entered an apartment or fled the area.

During the investigation, deputies learned that a victim had confronted the suspect. The suspect proceeded to assault and stab the victim who sustained additional injuries as he tried to get away. The victim transported himself to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

Through victim statements and video surveillance, Monterey County Sheriff Deputies were able to identify the suspect as

21-year-old Anthony Farfan of East Garrison. On Tuesday August 27th, Deputies obtained a search warrant for Farfan’s residence. At about 5:17 PM, as deputies prepared to serve the warrant in the 21200 block of Ord Avenue, Farfan attempted to exit his residence through a back door where he was detained by deputies without incident. Farfan was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries he sustained the previous night.

Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto stated, “Thanks to good witness statements and the great investigative efforts by our Sheriff deputies and detectives, we were able to locate and arrest a suspect who posed a threat to our East Garrison community.”

Farfan will be booked into the Monterey County Jail for violation of 664-187 PC, Attempted Murder; 422 PC, Criminal Threats; 664-459 PC, Attempted Burglary; and 417 PC, Brandishing of a Weapon.
