Records Division

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Records Division is the repository, retrieval and records management center for all of the booking records for Monterey County and all official incident reports taken by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office for the County’s unincorporated areas. 

The Records Unit personnel process requests for information regarding incident reports and out-of-custody inmate inquiries for authorized governmental agencies, releases reports as allowed by law, issues “Good Conduct” letters, and provides a variety of other services for the law enforcement community of Monterey County. 

Individual requests for information may be received by mail or fax, but must be picked-up in person. See details below for details on how to request specific records.

Services

  • All booking records for Monterey County are maintained in the Records Division. Release of booking records is limited.

  • Records may be requested with the Request for Criminal History Check or Solicitud de Historial Criminal (see Forms page).

    • Requests may be mailed to 1414 Natividad Road, Salinas, CA 93906.

    • A $92.00 non-refundable fee is required at the time the request is submitted.

    • A valid California or United States identification card is also required.

  • Crime & Incident Reports Copies of incident reports may be requested using the following forms: 

    Electronic form: Request for Release of Information.

    • Once this form is submitted, our Records staff will review the submission. Please allow adequate time to pass before following up with our staff. 

    Physical form: Request for Release of Information & Solicitud Para Obtener Información.

    • These forms can be mailed or faxed using the information provided below.  

  • Appointments are required and are available Monday through Friday (holidays excepted) from 8:45 AM to 3:45 PM. The cost is $28.00 plus DOJ/FBI fees if applicable, and applicant must bring Live Scan form. For an appointment or any questions, please call (831) 755-3700.

    Holiday Schedule

    The Records Division operates 24 hours a day, every day of the week. However, our front lobby's LiveScan services follow Monterey County's Holiday schedule. Please see the list of observed holidays, the front lobby will be closed during any observed holidays.

  • With the support of the California State Attorney General’s Office, Megan’s Law was enacted in 2004. 

    Megan’s Law enables the public to access detailed information on registered sex offenders at anytime.

  • Item descriptionCriminal History records include arrests and convictions on a State or Federal level. All individuals legally residing in the United States have the right to request a copy of their own criminal history record. An individual requesting to review their own records cannot use the information provided to fulfill the requirements for employment, entry into an educational program/institution, or for obtaining a license/certification. 

    The typical reasons these records are requested is for immigration, international adoption or travel, or to confirm the information is accurate and complete. If you are unsure of the level and/or type of background check you need, please refer to the appropriate government agency or requesting entity. California Record Reviews Information on the California Record Review process can be found on the Attorney General’s website. 

    Or you may call the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Record Review department at (916) 227-3832. Our Fingerprint/Live Scan section will provide you with information on the requirements and scheduling of this service. All California background checks are conducted using the Live Scan service. The fee for this service is $55. This fee includes both the California DOJ fees and our $28 rolling fee. 

    In order for us to provide you with this service, you must download the Record Review LiveScan Request form (BCII 8016RR) from the California Attorney General’s website. Federal Record Reviews Currently Federal background checks are conducted using traditional ink prints. Our Fingerprint/Live Scan can provide you with information on the requirements and scheduling of this service.

    When scheduling this appointment, confirm the availability of the FBI ink cards. We charge a rolling fee of $28 plus DOJ/FBI fees if applicable. There will be an additional fee requested by the FBI. For complete information on submitting the federal criminal history record requests, please see the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) website.

  • All criminal, traffic, and juvenile warrants issued in Monterey County are maintained in the Records Division. Release of warrant information is limited.

  • Vehicle releases are available 8am to 8pm.

    The following items are required for release:

    • $136.00 for the vehicle release fee.

    • Valid registration of the legal or registered owner.

    • Valid driver's license of the legal or registered owner, or a valid driver's license of a designated driver.

Our Records Division operates every day of the week, even Holidays. Furthermore, we have multiple shifts which ensures staffing 24 hours a day.
