Message From Your Sheriff
Tina M. Nieto,
Sheriff-Coroner
On behalf of the men and women of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office thank you for taking the time to learn about our organization. I am honored to serve alongside the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office, where our people are our greatest resource. My hope is that these pages provide useful and interesting information about the police department and the services we currently provide.
The dedicated professionals of Monterey County Sheriff’s Office serve a population of nearly half a million residents. Our authorized staff includes 324 sworn personnel, 165 professional staff members and a cadre of dedicated volunteers who share their own time in the capacity of reserve police officers, and volunteers in police services. The members of the Sheriff’s Office truly care about the safety of our community and providing excellent customer service. We view the community as our customer and believe we are successful when a customer feels they have been well and fully served.
We invite and encourage community members to take the opportunity to participate in our community-related programs and safety events, including Coffee with the Sheriff, Community Ride-Alongs, National Night Out and more.
Our policing philosophy balances a foundation of traditional policing concepts with innovative and progressive methods to help evolve with our community into the future. Community problems are often best addressed by working in partnership with community members; therefore, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office will continually strive to improve community relations and increase public confidence.
I encourage you to contact us with ideas you might have about police department matters you feel would be of interest to others. As your sheriff, I will always listen to your needs and strive to be open and honest with community members as well as the men and women with whom I serve. I believe maintaining a high level of professionalism within the Sheriff’s Office serves to maintain the quality of public safety our community deserve and fosters collaborative efforts which result in constantly improving community relations.
