Investigations
Division

The Investigation division’s primary function is the investigation of major felony criminal cases, as well as, cases that may be particularly complex or sensitive. This division also provides general and specialized support to other law enforcement agencies within the county. A Commander and thee Detective-Sergeants oversee this division. The Investigations division is broken up into three units. The Coroners unit, the violent crimes unit (VCU), and the property crimes unit (PCU). Each of these units has multiple dedicated detectives that specialize in particular investigations. The Investigations division also has a Criminal Intelligence Analyst. This analyst is part of the investigative team and works closely with the detectives in their assigned unit to provide analytical support by systematically collecting, organizing, analyzing, and utilizing criminal intelligence to guide detectives in their operational and tactical decisions.
