Press Release: Attempted Murder In Pajaro

TYPE OF INCIDENT: Neighbor Intervenes to Save Woman Who Was Being Brutally Attacked. Victim Sustains Severe Head Injuries -

On October 2nd, 2024, about 12:40 PM, Monterey County Sheriff Deputies were called out to the 30 block of Florence Avenue in Pajaro for a medical emergency involving a person that was bleeding after being attacked. Upon arrival, deputies were flagged down by a subject who stated that someone inside a residence needed help. Deputies located an 83-year-old female suffering from what appeared to be severe head trauma. A second individual was also located in the residence.

The reporting party stated he was in his residence when he heard screaming from an adjacent residence. He recognized one of the voices as his neighbor and went to investigate. Upon entering the residence, he saw a female repeatedly hitting his 83-year-old neighbor in the head with a knife sharpener. The neighbor was able to pull the suspect off his neighbor and call 911 for assistance.

Monterey County Sheriff Deputies confirmed through the reporting party that the second person in the residence was the suspect in this incident and they were able to immediately take her into custody. The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Schauntel Marina Gomez of Milpitas.

The victim was transported to a local trauma center for treatment of severe head injuries and was later listed as being in stable condition after undergoing surgery.

Schauntel Marina Gomez was booked into the Monterey County Jail for violation of 664-187 PC, Attempted Murder; 245(a)(1) PC, Assault with a Deadly Weapon and 368(b)(1) PC, Elder Abuse. Bail has been set at $1,030,000.00.
