Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a juvenile for possession of a concealed, un-serialized handgun with a high-capacity magazine after he was contacted with another juvenile in a vehicle while in possession of and under the influence of alcoholic beverages.
On September 28th, 2024, at about 11:49 PM, Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies conducted an occupied vehicle check along the 12200 block of Cornwall Street in Salinas. Deputies immediately noticed multiple open containers of alcoholic beverages in plain view. Deputies were able to determine that the two occupants of the vehicle were a 17-year-old male and 16-year-old female, both of Salinas.
A search of the vehicle yielded an un-serialized (aka “ghost gun”) semi-automatic handgun with an extended high-capacity magazine underneath the driver seat.
“An intoxicated adult or juvenile with a gun is a recipe for disaster. This is why we need deputies patrolling our streets,” stated Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto.
The female juvenile was cited and released to her parents for being a minor in possession of alcohol. The male juvenile was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall for the following charges: 29610(a) PC- Minor in possession of a gun; 24610 PC- Possession of un-serialized firearm; 25400(a)(1) PC- Concealed firearm in a vehicle; 32310(a) PC- Possession of a high-capacity magazine.
