Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested two suspects for armed robbery that occurred in Moss Landing after a foot pursuit along the Pajaro River levee. One suspect is still outstanding. On July 23rd, 2025, about 11:40 AM, Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies received a report from a person reporting he had just been robbed at knifepoint by three subjects in the area of Dolan Road and Via Tanques Road in Moss Landing. The victim was conducting utility work in the area when he saw the suspects burglarizing his work vehicle. When the victim confronted the suspects, one of them pulled out a knife on both the victim and his co-worker before taking tools and fleeing the area in a vehicle. The two victims did not sustain any injuries.

Just after 12:00 noon, deputies located a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle that the suspects were last seen fleeing in. The vehicle was located in the area of Gonda Street near the Pajaro River levee in the community of Pajaro. Three subjects were in the vehicle and immediately fled on foot upon seeing deputies. One suspect was immediately captured by one deputy. A second deputy chased a second suspect into the Pajaro Levee area where he was able to take him into custody. The third suspect was able to elude deputies. The outstanding suspect was described as a Hispanic Male adult wearing a black top and blue pants. He was last seen running west along the south side of the levee.

34-year-old David Ortiz Calderon and 36-year-old Larry Genaro Martinez Escandon both of Watsonville were later booked into the Monterey County Jail for charges of armed robbery and delaying/obstructing a peace officer.

We wish to thank the California Highway Patrol and Watsonville Police Department for their assistance during this investigation.
