Press Release: MCSO Deputies Arrest Subject for Possession of Loaded Gun/Marijuana After he Tries to Flee

Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 31-year-old Alfonso Gutierrez Martinez of Salinas who attempted to flee while handcuffed after he was contacted along the 100 block of Jetty Road. He had multiple arrest warrants, a loaded unregistered firearm and over 5 pounds of marijuana.
About 11:26 PM on November 16th, 2024, deputies were patrolling the area of Jetty Road and checked on a vehicle that was parked in violation of a county ordinance prohibiting parking after sunset. Upon approaching the vehicle, numerous open alcohol beverage containers could be seen, and deputies could smell a strong odor of marijuana.
The male occupant identified himself to deputies who quickly learned that he had three outstanding arrest warrants. Martinez was detained in handcuffs. As he stood by with a deputy, he attempted to flee on foot and was captured a short distance away.
Deputies proceeded to conduct a search of the vehicle and located multiple bags containing over 5 pounds of marijuana. Also found was a loaded firearm that was found to be unregistered.
Alfonso Gutierrez Martinez was transported and booked into the Monterey County Jail for resisting/delaying a peace officer; possession of a loaded firearm; possession of an unregistered firearm; possession of more than one ounce of marijuana; and possession of marijuana for sales. His bail is $35,000.00.
