The Monterey County Sheriff / Coroner Office and the Military and Veterans Affairs Office have come together to honor and lay to rest seven Monterey County military veterans who were not previously afforded the opportunity to be recognized and thanked for their selfless service and sacrifice.

Since November 29th, 2023, the Monterey County Sheriff / Coroner Office has had in its custody the remains of seven military veterans who passed away in Monterey County under varying circumstances. Monterey County Sheriff Detective Sgt. James Day and Detective Brian Postadan, both military veterans themselves, were able to confirm the military service of these seven individuals. They worked diligently alongside the Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs Office to arrange for proper burial with full military honors.

The ceremony will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 14th, 2026, at the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery, 2900 Parker Flats Cut-off Road, Seaside, California.

Those being laid to rest are:

CPL Jimmie L. Terry, US Marine Corps, 12/2/1947 – 11/29/2023

SP4 Jerry D. Crawford, US Army, 9/11/1966 – 8/11/2024

SP4 Richard Sweetz, US Army, 8/30/1963 – 12/19/2024

SP4 Robert A. Stillman, US Army, 7/1/1944 – 3/8/2025

SP5 Donald N. Fousek, US Army, 12/11/1946 – 3/15/2025

SP4 Tommy W. Williamson, US Army, 8/22/1953 – 4/7/2025

PVT Eugene W. Berck, US Army, 8/8/1946 – 6/5/2025

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is honored that Detective Sgt. James Day and Detective Brian Postadan dedicated themselves to ensuring these veterans were afforded the dignity, recognition, and honorable burial they so rightfully deserve after faithfully serving our country. Through their compassion, persistence, and shared understanding as fellow veterans, these seven individuals will now be laid to rest with the military honors befitting their service and sacrifice. The Monterey County Sheriff / Coroner Office and the Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs Office remain committed to ensuring that no veteran is forgotten and that their service to our nation is remembered with the respect and gratitude it deserves.
