On October 23, 2025, a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the Monterey County Jail’s new Reentry Resource Center was held. The center is dedicated to empowering and supporting families and individuals as they transition back into the community after incarceration.
The Monterey County Jail’s Reentry Resource Center will serve as a hub for support, guidance, and opportunity, helping to build safer and stronger pathways for reintegration. Available resources and programs will include various services, such as housing assistance, behavioral and mental health services, clinical services, substance use treatment, and employment referrals.
After the ceremony, Sheriff Tina M. Nieto stated, “When people walk into this building, our goal is to fill them with hope and to give them real opportunities for change. We’re surrounding them with people who genuinely care about their progress. That’s all we can ask of anyone: to do a little better today than we did yesterday. And with a supportive team behind you, you don’t just get a list of phone numbers — you get a warm handshake and a community ready to help you move forward. That’s what the Reentry Center stands for.”
Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, Monterey County Jail held a job and resource fair for our incarcerated population. The incarcerated persons in attendance are expected to transition back into the community in the near future. This Reentry Resource Center is a key part of our commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and reducing recidivism rates within our community.
