TYPE OF INCIDENT: Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Arrest Teacher for Sexual Misconduct with Student

Monterey County Sheriff’s Detectives have arrested a former North Monterey County High School Teacher for having a sexual relationship with a student. The teacher was taken into custody at Woodland High School in Woodland, California where she was actively employed as an English teacher.

Monterey County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a juvenile male student at North Monterey County High School who had been involved in a sexual relationship with a teacher. The teacher was identified as Mika Yoneda, age 25. Yoneda worked previously at North Monterey County High School as a teacher in 2022, before leaving in 2023. Yoneda was currently employed at Woodland High School as a teacher.

At this time, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is not aware of any incidents involving students from the Woodland area. While Yoneda was in Monterey County, she was providing services as a private tutor in addition to working as a teacher at North Monterey County High School. Mika Yoneda is currently being held on $1,500,000.00 bail. She was booked on the following charges: 288.4 PC, 288.3 PC, 261.5(a) PC, 288(c)(1) PC, 286(b)(1) PC, 287 PC and 266(j) PC.
