On July 4th, 2025, at about 2000 hours, Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a suspect for kidnapping after a 10-year-old girl reported being grabbed while walking home from a park in Castroville.
Family members detained the suspect, identified as 61-year-old Salvador Hernandez-Saldivar, after he grabbed the child’s wrist, offering her a bicycle, and attempted to take her. The victim was able to pull away and ran home to tell her family, who then located Hernandez-Saldivar and held him down until deputies arrived.
“Protecting our most vulnerable remains a top priority of our office. As witnessed by our community members’ quick actions, they too showed their commitment to holding those looking to do harm accountable. There are not enough thank yous in the world for those who stepped in to help save this child,” said Sheriff Tina Nieto.
The child was uninjured and reunited safely with her family. Hernandez-Saldivar was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on the following charges, with a bail of $200,000:
