The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is providing an update regarding the shooting that occurred on Thursday, June 26, 2025, in the parking lot behind the Castroville Market (10696 Merritt Street).
We are saddened to report that 27-year-old Marcelino Calixto Pastrana of Castroville succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital the night of June 26th, 2025.
The second victim, identified as a 17-year-old male juvenile from Salinas, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
“Our thoughts are with Mr. Pastrana’s family during this painful time, and we remain focused on seeking justice on their behalf. We also keep the juvenile victim and his family in our prayers as he fights for his life. We encourage anyone with information to come forward to help bring those responsible to justice and keep our communities safe,” said Sheriff Tina Nieto.
This incident remains an active homicide investigation, and no additional information is available at this time.
