Press Release: Monterey County Sheriff Update to Carmel Bank Robbery

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate an armed robbery that happened on Friday May 9th, 2025 at the Wells Fargo Bank Branch located at 26600 Carmel Center Place in Carmel, California.

At about 4:40 PM, on Friday May 9th, 2025, Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies received a call of a possible armed robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank. Multiple suspects were reported to have entered the bank. They were believed to be armed with handguns. The suspects were last seen fleeing the area in a red vehicle with an undisclosed amount of money. Deputy arrived within minutes and located a suspicious vehicle matching the description which was determined to be unoccupied.

An extensive search of the mouth of Carmel Valley, the Carmel Riverbed and areas in and around the Wells Fargo Bank and Carmel Middle School was conducted but suspects were not located.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is releasing a photo showing some of the suspects entering the bank. It is unknown at this time exactly how many suspects were involved in this robbery. Suspects were wearing hooded sweatshirts, masks and gloves. Detectives would also like to call attention to a sweatshirt that was being worn by one of the suspects. The sweatshirt contains the image of a grim reaper with the word “Rebel.” We are asking the public to assist detectives by reporting any locations in Monterey County that may be selling this sweatshirt.
