On September 29, 2025, at about 10:18 p.m., a Deputy Sheriff with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office saw a known wanted felon, Kory Yokomizo (38), in the area of Alvin Drive and Natividad Road in Salinas. Yokomizo attempted to hide and then fled on foot when deputies contacted him.

During the foot pursuit, Yokomizo discarded a firearm before falling to the ground, where deputies and a Salinas Police officer took him into custody without incident. A loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson semi-automatic handgun, was recovered.

Yokomizo is a convicted felon with two strikes and a documented Norteño criminal street gang member. He was transported to the Monterey County Jail where deputies located 2.03 grams of methamphetamine concealed in his clothing.

“Thanks to the quick action of our deputies, a wanted felon was taken off the streets before he could do more harm. A loaded firearm and illegal drugs were recovered, removing both from our neighborhoods. This arrest is another example of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office’s commitment to protecting our community and holding dangerous individuals accountable,” said Sheriff Tina Nieto

In addition to the felony arrest warrant, Yokomizo was booked into the Monterey County Jail for multiple felony charges including, felon in possession of a firearm, resisting arrest, carrying a concealed firearm as a gang member, possession of narcotics in a jail facility, and carrying a loaded firearm in public.
